Transition Note - Explanation on Links Without Discussions

Dear Member,

Recently, LinkedIn changed the Group Interface eliminating the "News" areas. "News" used to accommodate links to articles and other resources that came unaccompanied by summaries, descriptions, etc. Once LinkedIn removed the "News" area all previously posted "News" were automatically placed in the "Discussion" area of the Group.

Here's the problem we are facing as a Moderation Team: As per Group  Guidelines, the following rule applies to all Discussion items:

Rule # 3: Discussion items must be strictly self-contained. Discussion Items must be fully understandable to Members without the need to click on any link or access any additional resources. Linked resources should complement but not substitute the Discussion item.  Discussion items consisting of simple "links" to resources OR Discussion items linked to non-HR relevant resources may be deleted without notice.

This Rule was created to encourage Discussion. The Group is very large (almost 300,000!) and a very large number of items are posted regularly. If we don't have rules for "self containment" the "News" completely bury "Discussions" - which makes it more difficult for Members to participate, network, and engage in conversation.

I count on your understanding and cooperation to do the following:

- Please post all single links to relevant HR resources in our newly revamped "Resources" Subgroup. That's where we're hoping Members will search for interesting articles, white papers, presentations, etc. The address is http://tinyurl.com/linkedhrresources.

- You may post a link in the "Discussion" area of any of the Groups / Subgroups - but please make sure that the Link plays a "supporting" role. It shouldn't "be" the Discussion.  Instead, please make sure that someone can comment on your item without clicking on the "link".

One last kind request: Please make sure that your postings clearly encourage a discussion (please ask a question, ask members to comment, etc.).

Regretfully, I must delete your posting.  Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.

Best wishes,

Moderator, Linked:HR
